Dr. Stella Awoh Mofunanya, Rector of Redeemers College of Technology (RECTEM), has urged parents and leaders to set a positive example for the younger generation to follow, emphasizing the need for a strong societal foundation and the enhancement of educational standards in tertiary institutions.
Dr. Mofunanya made this appeal during a public lecture celebrating the first anniversary of Dr. Ibraheem Abdul’s tenure as Rector of Yaba College of Technology. In her presentation titled “Leadership and Service: The Need for Creativity, Innovation, and Excellence,” she called on leaders to inspire their followers to embrace collective values and aspirations, urging them to put aside self-centered desires for the greater good.
Reflecting on the past, she noted that parents once communicated with their children through sign language, a practice she feels is fading due to the rise of technology. “We are all leaders. When we were growing up, our parents taught us through signs. In our homes, when visitors arrived, our parents used sign language. But today, we are losing that tradition because of technology,” she remarked.
Dr. Mofunanya also encouraged lecturers and guardians to remain vigilant and attentive, acknowledging that some students are facing challenges that impact their mental health.
An alumna of Yaba College of Technology, Dr. Mofunanya praised the institution for its outstanding performance and commended its Rector, Dr. Engr. Ibraheem Adedokun Abdul, who was recently inducted into the Legendary Hall of Fame for his exemplary leadership.
